(CNN) — A federal judge dropped charges against former CIA operative and anti-Castro Cuban militant Luis Posada Carriles on Tuesday, blasting what she called government “fraud, deceit and trickery” in an interview with Posada that led to the charges.
Posada, 79, was charged with seven counts of immigration fraud. He was arrested in Miami in May 2005 after entering the country illegally.
. . . the Cuban government blames the White House for having “made all the efforts necessary to protect the bin Laden of the hemisphere, [out of] fear that he could have talked and recount the whole history about the U.S. government links with his terrorists’ activities.”
. . .
The Cuban government accuses Posada of being involved in the 1976 downing of a Cuban passenger plane, which killed 73 people. Posada has denied any role in the airliner attack.
He’s also accused of being involved in a string of hotel bombings in Havana and making attempts on the life of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
Venezuela and Cuba have both asked that Posada be extradited, but an immigration judge in September 2005 ruled he could not be sent to either country out of concernhe might face torture there.

WHOA! Wait a minute!
We are not extraditing an accused international terrorist to Cuba because the Cubans might torture him? Surely, they wouldn’t. Don’t they know the USA has the sole rights to torture on Cuban soil?
Still, doesn’t seem quite fair. I mean, if anyone has a right to practice torture in Cuba, it ought to be the Cubans, even if they are Commies. Come to think of it, especially if they are Commies they ought to be able to torture on their own home soil.
This would be funny were it not so dangerous. If this guy had blown up a Chinese airliner he would be over there by now and his family would be making monthly installments to pay for the bullet to kill him. Even the People’s Republic of Vietnam , a country with which we were in a shooting war awhile back, could rely on Boy George handing him over in a silver tiger cage.
Let’s be honest. Bush figures he may be a terrorist, but he’s OUR terrorist . . . uh . . . I mean freedom fighter.
Oh, and the “botched” investigation. I can just see the “wink, wink, nudge, nudge” instructions to the agents.
“Now, don’t go messin’ with his civil rights or nothing,” they were told, “y’all hear?”
“Yeah,” they responded. “We hear.”
“What ah meant to say,” the superior would say, “is if y’all crossed the line or anything, why that case could jest get throwed out of court.”
“We hear,” they say, somewhat bored. “No problem.”
“Y’all hear,” he says impatiently, “but do y’all understand?
“Here’s y’all’s briefing material, read it carefully – so’s y’all get mah meaning about not violating his human rights,” the boss says as he hands them a book.
“Uncle Remus?”? they ask.
“Yes, suh,” beams the boss, “signed by Tony Snow hisself.
“Now, y’all go read that story about the briar patch, and remember, don’t go violating no civil rights.”
Thus, dear children, a suspected internaitonal terrorist and illegal alien was released by “Boy George” Bush. Yes, the very same “Boy George” Bush who promised to fight terrorism wherever he finds it, and whose party is demanding deportation of illegal aliens.
‘Magine that, children.
