When I developed a taste for bowties, most of the family went out of their way to discourage it. There was one exception.
At that time, bowties were even harder to find than they are now, which is difficult. Not only were they hard to find, they were bloody expensive. It was quite discouraging.
Aunt Sis came to the rescue. For decades, she was my source for bowties. I still have some. Others just wore out. That was just part of the joy of knowing her.
We always were told she was “Aunt Sis” because when my mother, her younger sister, was a girl, mother could not say “Dorothy”. She could say “sister” and thus “Sis” was born.
It was so strange to be in that house today without her presence.
