“What idiots at PBS” . . . oh yeah?

September 25th, 2007 · No Comments · Uncategorized

First, I currently am physically at a PBS station making a documentary about WWII and have personally gotten into the crosshairs.

Now, I have said my disclaimer.

Now I have my response.

The hell you say!

These fines which can be absorbed so easily by Clear Channel are crippling to Public Broadcasting Stations.  There still is incoming over the Hispanic issue.

It is more a reflection of the sad state of affairs of this country that a bunch of indolent, selfish and idle people have sat back and let the Reich Wing run over the nation and its rights.

Our voter turnout is absolutely sinful, and would be criminal in some countries and others would cancel the election results and call for a new election.

Our citizen involvement sucks.

What’s absurd is that Boy George Bush and his cabal of Reich Wing Kristians want to censor World War II veterans – some of them heroes – for telling the truth about war.

Gee, why could that be?

KCSM-TV set to fight FCC’s obscenity fine

Malaika Fraley, STAFF WRITER

SAN MATEO — The College of San Mateo’s KCSM-TV plans to appeal a proposed $15,000 fine from the Federal Communications Commission for obscenities uttered in a 2004 documentary film.

The San Mateo County Community College District Board of Trustees unanimously voted at its Wednesday meeting to contest the fine in response to the FCC’s announcement of action against the station last week.

The Board also accepted a Washington, D.C., law firm’s offer to represent the college district to the FCC and, if necessary, in the courts, on a pro bono basis, according to district spokeswoman Barbara Christensen.

The FCC reccommended to fine the nonprofit education station in response to the PBS documentary “The Blues: Godfathers and Sons,” chronicling the modern-day Chicago blues scene.

Subjects utter the f-word, s-word and variants repeatedly in the film, which KCSM-TV aired on March 11, 2004 before 10 p.m. The FCC has different considerations for material that could be considered obscene after 10 p.m., when younger viewers are expected to be in bed.

Though the FCC deems the language indecent, the station contends it contributed to the educational experience of the documentary. The subjects were using their own words, providing a window into their world.

“We don’t believe that the FCC took into account prior precedent set by them in our case — how the language was used in context,” KCSM-TV General Manager Marilyn Lawrence said Thursday.

The station has until April 14 to file its appeal with the FCC, after which the agency will decide whether the fine will stand.

What idiots at pbs

PBS to Deliver Only Edited War Feed on Weekends (B&C)
PBS is feeding both an edited and unedited version of The War to stations for each of seven two-hour debut broadcasts over seven evenings, which began Sunday night. It will feed only the edited version — minus four swear words — to stations for weekend “stacking.” Why? “Because conceivably, a four-year-old could watch it,” PBS spokeswoman Lea Sloan said, “and it would be going right into the teeth of the FCC.”
