Who knew Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX26) was so discerning?

The congressional GOP must be on the way back up, thanks to, what one member called the purge of “stranglers, thieves and pedophiles.”

At a book discussion Monday night at the National Press Club, political language guru Frank Luntz, who often advises Republicans, said that, last fall, “leadership made me apologize for saying they were in trouble” heading into the elections.

That’s when Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, piped up from the back of the room.

“You upset the stranglers, thieves and pedophiles,” he said to much laughter. read more

Ok, Rep. Burgess, the only problem here is sorting out who is who. Care to enlighten us? If it was “last fall”, then the author was talking about the current GOP leadership. So, that would be, in Rep. Burgess’ case Minority Leader John A. Boehner (Ohio), House Minority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) and House Republican Conference Chairman Adam H. Putnam (Fla). Which is which? Or did he mean Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)?

Of course, he could have meant Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) or Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) or Sen. Larry Craig (R-Id.) or Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R-Ca.). However, they, and others already are gone. Out of that lot, I don’t remember strangling ever being mentioned.

Maybe Rep. Burgess did not mean the GOP leadership per se, but either the handlers or the constituents. Maybe he meant all Republicans are”stranglers”, “thieves” or “pedophiles”.

I find that rather hard to believe.
