Sen. John Cornyn of Texas wants me to sign an online petition praising and supporting Gen. Petraeus.

He so wants my support, he is willing to lie to get it.

Here’s part of his little campaign email to me, which is repeated on his website.

You might remember the last time General Petraeus appeared before the committee he was met with outright hostility by Democrats and their third party attack dogs. The liberal left wing attack group MoveOn.org even took out a full page ad in the New York Times calling him a traitor.

I think the ad did not go quite that far. However, the truth never has seemed to matter much to the supporters of Bush’s War.
Now, from where I stand. It really appears to me that the only thing holding back full scale war in Iraq is Moqtada Sadr holding back his guys. However, I am wrong according to the Iraqi government, via UPI.

BAGHDAD, April 8 (UPI) — Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said the incursion into Basra showed the strength of Iraqi national forces and their resolve against militias.

Maliki said in Baghdad the Iraqi military operations sent a strong message to militias “who oppose democracy,” noting the Iraqi forces targeted several militias beyond the Mahdi Army, the military wing of the Sadrist Movement.

Gee, here I thought they went in without little or no planning, without telling the U.S. what was up and managed to fight themselves into a corner until U.S. forces could cover their retreat….uh…victory march out of the area. At least that what I understand that those who chose to fight did.
In the meanwhile, the ventriloquist act continues and it is getting better. Vice President Dick Cheney uses his presidential dummy to make it appear it is using its Gen. Petraeus dummy to make it appear Gen. Petraeus actually is talking to Boy George Bush and reporting the progress in the Surge, or the pause or the thumb twiddling or whatever it is this week.
Basically, Texas Senator John Cornyn is trying to raise support for a stagnant, failed policy that does disservice to the brave men and women of our military.
It is obvious those who command our troops in Iraq have no idea what they are doing. If they have any idea what the measure of victory is they have no idea as to how to go about it.
It is time to bring home the troops; we should start with Gen. Petraeus.
