Genealogy, illegal aliens and FDR

My mother’s genealogy research shows us related to a hat maker in Holland who married a wealthy Puritan woman before they both came over on the Mayflower.

That makes us among North America’s first illegal aliens.

Besides the wealthy in law, one branch of the family tree apparently goes back to the extremely wealthy President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

All I have to say is, “Show me the money!”

The John Birch Society Song premiered on the Chad Mitchell Trios’ 1962 album “Live at the Bitter End”. The song takes on the anti-Communist fervor of the post-McCarthy era, as epitomized by the John Birch Society. This was after the Cuban Missile Crises, when some were looking under the beds of America for dirty, rotten commies.

This was a very jingoistic time, where thinking for yourself and publicly stating unpopular ideas was frowned upon. Of course, it soon would be all shot to hell by the assassination of Pres. John F. Kennedy, followed by the murders of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Sen. Robert Kennedy, and the Vietnam War.

Despite the defrocking and public shame of McCarthy, the ultra right was at its height, though it soon would be dethroned.

Last year, the Chad Mitchell Trio recorded a parody of its own song, as a goodbye (and good riddance) to Boy George Bush and his NeoCON gang (the guys who put the “con” back into conservative). The song serves as Boy George’s legacy and goes out to all those who still defend this nation’s worst ever president.

Mondo Candido is a refreshing and fun trip back to the Seventies, but with an upgrade.

One of the world’s most respected Lounge acts, the italian band Mondo Candido delivers a mixture of Retro-Pop reminiscent of the classic 70s Italian filmsmusic blended with today’s contemporary International Electronic sound.

Bizarre is the title of MoCa’s second CD and it is the logical continuation of the ‘mood’ of the first one. It comes out at the end of 2006.

The main ingredients are the same: a kind of mixture between vintage sounds -retrò moods revisited in a contemporary way, latin-bossa influences, cinematic atmospheres, a touch of jazz.

The contemporary production of MoCa features a more ‘groovy’ sound, if compared with the debut album, so that the whole project sounds more ‘catchy’, bright and strong.

Nevertheless, you still have some typical sophisticated MoCa tunes. These songs features a kind of softness and melodic appeal which reminds the flavour of some typical sounds from sixties and early seventies.
